In March 2015, CIBART was awarded for a project titled “Product development and market assessment of bamboo boards, using Indian Species” by Sir Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust, Mumbai. Across the World, bamboo is used industrially for a range of applications and CIBART has partnered with Native Konbac Bamboo Products Pvt. Ltd., a leading company promoting bamboo plantation, bamboo furniture and structures in the Konkan Region to identify select, process, design and make bamboo based board furniture using Indian species and addressing value chain issues in promoting bamboo boards and for industrial application.
CIBART displayed bamboo board furniture in the Global Bamboo Summit in Indore during April 2016 and dignitaries visited and appreciated the newly designed bamboo board furniture.
The project is operational in Maharashtra and has drawn upon practices of industries producing bamboo boards in the north eastern states of India. The furniture made by using bamboo boards received a good response and valuable feedback in the UBX-INDEX exhibition since it compares favourably with similar products in global marketplaces, both in terms of price and quality.
