Bamboo, has high tensile strength, is stronger than steel, and in comparison with timber, concrete and other construction material is competitively priced, requires minimal technology, and is more energy efficient. Bamboo construction technology allows production of pre-fabricated structure components, such as columns and trusses and semi-mechanized production processes of pre-fabricated structure parts lowering skill levels required for bamboo culm joinery reducing building costs and enabling more local youths to participate in construction projects.

Eco-tourist sites
CIBART uses professional architects and designers and skilled artisans in its construction focused CFCs to develop eco-tourist sites, resorts, cottages, tree houses and other structures. The Gujarat Forest Department’s eco-tourist village consisting of 12 large structures was completed within a record time of one month, and during the monsoons.

Pre-fabricated bamboo buildings
CIBART has completed a Tata Trusts project for making prefab bamboo structure; and subsequently India’s largest bamboo structure of over 10,750 sq ft was designed in Cochin and assembled and erected in Hyderabad using prefab components built in the Kudal CFC using large diameter bamboo. It has a 60 ft span and weighs 61 tons.

Bamboo bridge
In a training cum production activity a bamboo bridge and a bamboo toilet were constructed at Himachal Forest Reseach Institute, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh.
