Northeast India

Bamboo is predominant in the northeastern forests of India and extensively used in all households. However, lack of information about the distribution, species available, quality and volume, has prevented many industries from making more use of this resource. CIBART completed an extensive resource assessment study at the gram panchayat and development block levels in three bamboo-rich states in this region. Digital, field surveys and other methods were used. The following are the results of the assessment.

• Assessment of species available, quantity, quality in terms of commercial parameters, age-classification, price, availability and supply feasibility and logistics of different bamboo species from farm and forest areas.
• Identification of potential areas and partners for commercial bamboo plantations and supply.
• Assessment of compliance aspects across the supply chain.
